For those of you who have grown up in Harties or spent summer holidays here, a highlight for many would be riding on a tyre behind a speedboat. Screaming with joy as the water splashed across your face and into my mouth, Now we would all think twice before swimming in the dam..
For many years the dam has faced major ecological issues including invasive hyacinth, eutrophication, siltation, dumping of raw sewerage and industrial effluent, drift wood and plastic waste. These issues affect not only the aesthetic, but also the water quality and ecology of the dam.
A mix of hyacinth, drift wood and plastic waste floats on the top of the dam, reducing potential for tourism because boating equipment gets stuck in it.

Team Up
Clean up
2
The aim is a cleaner & restored town which includes picking up of rubbish on road verges and along the shoreline, cutting of long grass in key areas, painting of roads, cleaning and painting areas of dam wall, pruning of trees and beautifying some areas with plants
Initiatives such as these are vital in raising public awareness and gathering community interest in the state of our environment, which we can only hope leads to action.
How you can help

A Section 21 Tax certificate will be issued for each donation. The donation will go towards paying for the rubbish removal, paint and any other material required.
